Drunk Twister (How to Play + Hilarious Drinking Rules!)

Introduction

Drunk Twister is essentially your classic game of Twister, but with shot glasses of beer or wine waiting for you on every new spot claimed. Now there are optional drinking rules you can add on top of that standard Twister Drinking Game that we’ve outlined for your drinking pleasure. Below we walk you through how exactly to play Drunk Twister, along with fun variations to keep the drinks and laughs flowing!

Drunk Twister

Setup

  • Set up Twister as usual (mat and spinner)
  • Place a shot glass filled with beer or wine (or a cup with a shot-sized portion) on each spot on the mat
  • Each player should have their own side-drink
  • Pick a spin-master (if more than two people are already playing, the spin-master might want to sit out so they can be the referee and facilitate the drinking)
Twister mat set up with shot glasses of beer on each spot. The Twister spinner is in front of the mat.

How to Play Drunk Twister

Classic Drunk Twister

  • The spin-master spins the spinner and announces the command (e.g., right hand -> green)
  • All players must carry out the spinner’s command
  • If a player is the first to place a limb on a particular spot, they must drink the shot of beer or wine waiting on that spot before they can place their hand or foot there
  • If a player falls (i.e., elbow, knee, back or bum hits the floor), they lose and must finish their side-drink

Additional Rules (Optional)

  • Drink if you initiate contact with another player
  • Drink if you place a hand or foot on red
  • Drink if you are the slowest player to carry out the spinner’s command
  • Social if you have a limb on all four colors

Gameplay Suggestions

  • We recommend shot-sized portions of beer or wine rather than liquor because the drinks in Drunk Twister add up fast and presumably you’re going to want to play more than one game. If you want more booze after you’re all Twistered out, it will still be there waiting for you afterwards.
  • Twister can get messy quickly, which is worrisome if you’re concerned about shots of beer and wine being spilled all over the place. If this is a concern, place a sticky note or some other marker on each spot, then the spin-master can hand out the drinks once each spot is claimed.
  • It can be physically difficult for a player who already has their body contorted to grab a shot off the next spot they’re going to claim. For instance, if their foot is moving from one spot to another, it may be physically impossible for them to twist around to grab the shot with their hand. For that reason, we recommend the spin-master hand out the shots in these instances.

Conclusion

Drunk Twister is a fun drinking game if you’re looking for a little competition and a lot of laughs. Obey the almighty spinner and don’t get too twisted up! As always, please drink responsibly, know your limits, and have fun!
